Wow! Who would have thought that, 10 years later, Open Door Policy would still be around!? When I started this band, it was because I couldn’t play an instrument, but had a lot of writing I wanted to get in front of people’s faces.
I was lucky enough to find a few good people in not-so-little-anymore Logan, Utah, who were willing to take my lyrics and make them SING. While some of the members have changed over the years (Nette and I are the only OGs β and I’m super glad to have David, Jules, and Jon in my corner now, too!), the mission to create great music and inspire people has not. And I’ve even managed to learn an instrument along the way β the bass guitar! (Mainly because I got tired of having to find a new bass player every few months, but that’s neither here nor there!)
I’m so happy that, 10 years later, our music is better than ever, we’ve all evolved as human beings, and we continue to find more and more people to connect with and build community with. It fills me with joy that so many people love what we do!

A couple of Utah’s greatest bands
Okay, now that some of the sap is out of the way, it’s time to CELEBRATE! I spent a lot of time putting this show together. I reached out to so many great local bands we’ve played with over the years β and there were even more that I wanted to ask, but didn’t, because I low-key worried they’d gotten to big to pay us any mind or wouldn’t want to make the trek to Logan! I wish I could have them all on stage with us!
Anyway, all that said, I’m so stoked to have My New Mistress and Awakening Autumn joining us at WhySound on April 19 (my birthday! I’m getting old!)!
My New Mistress
My New Mistress is an OG Logan, Utah, band that’s been around, I think, as long as we have β if not longer! Comprised of some of Utah’s greatest musicians β Jeremy Harper, Adam Brown, Doug Callahan, and Robert Watkins β they have an energetic and fun sound mixing classic rock, heavy rock, and pop rock. I can’t NOT dance to them whenever they play!
It’s seriously hard to do them justice here, but I highly encourage you to check out heavy and fast songs like “You Know a Boy Can Dream“, “Tina,” and “Just Wait“; headbangers like “Carnie” and “PB“; and their softer, emotionally moving songs like “Birthday” and “Shooting from the Hip“.
Awakening Autumn
Awakening Autumn is a relatively new band to the Utah music scene β but holy shit, they’re going to go places if they keep up what they’re doing! They remind me a lot of one of my favorite bands, Waterparks β especially with songs like “Tough Luck” β and even a bit of a “poppier” Bright Eyes, with songs like “Bleed Out Summer” β which fills me with feelings of nostalgia and longing in ways that are hard to describe.
I also really want the latest song they’ve been teasing but HAVEN’T RELEASED YET β which I’m not sure the name of, but am going to guess it’s “Freak Show“?
Join us at WhySound on April 19!
We’ve planned a super fun show for you all with two of Utah’s greatest local bands. In this messed up world, you owe it to yourself to come enjoy a night of great entertainment.
