Carving out a Niche among Utah’s music, bands, and events
Since 2015, Open Door Policy has been carving out our place in the Utah music scene. We’re a few good friends who are super passionate about creating original songs inspired by iconic bands like Our Lady Peace, Nirvana, The Killers, The Pixies, Joy Division, Waterparks, Rise Against, Rage Against the Machine, and Death Cab for Cutie.
Our sound lands somewhere between indie, pop, new wave, and alternative rock — unpredictable yet familiar, with a spark of enthusiasm that keeps people coming back for more. And we’ve been very lucky to find a great community of Utah bands and devoted music lovers wherever we go who enjoy what we do!
We got our start in Logan, playing at places like WhySound, The Cache, Eagles, and Mulligans (now the site of Barrel & Stave) – and still enjoy playing regularly at these venues. Logan is our home, after all!
Right from the beginning, we felt such a warm welcome — especially when we shared the stage with incredible local bands like Big Sis, Salduro, My New Mistress, and Gag City. The great community we’ve built here affirms that people enjoy what we do and appreciate us as performers, artists, and people.
Expanding to Ogden
It wasn’t long before we ventured further south to Ogden. Venues like Kamikazes, Funk ‘N Dive, The Lighthouse, The Sand Trap, and D&R Spirits became our stomping grounds, and we love performing with great Ogden-born bands like Hi-Fi Murder, Version Two, and DougTheHuman. Every show, we find ourselves alongside more fantastic Utah bands. Ogden’s music scene is honestly one of the most supportive you’ll find — it’s a perfect spot for anyone looking to explore the best Utah events.
Taking on Salt Lake City
Next stop? Salt Lake City (and the wider SLC metro area!)! The state’s capital is absolutely buzzing with music — and we’ve been overjoyed to play alongside Jeff Dillon & The Revival, Spirit Machines, and even more of our favorite local artists. We’ve put our hearts into shows at Salt Lake events at The DLC at Quarters Arcade Bar, Ice Haus, International Bar, and other SLC hotspots. We’ve also enjoyed playing in the Provo-Orem area at venues like The Boardwalk and The Rise. It’s safe to say Salt Lake City events bring out the best in Utah music.
Festivals and Charitable Causes
Beyond venues, we’ve also had the chance to throw our support behind festivals and charitable causes that represent the spirit of Utah events. We’re no strangers to the Logan Pride festival, where we’ve played year after year, or Idaho’s LalaPOOLooza, an iconic festival which sadly ended before it could truly bloom (RIP LalaPOOLooza!). Additionally, we’re honored to have worked with charities like AUDIENTIS, Party with a Purpose, Battle for Mental Health, and Mutts for Mental Health — because we really believe strongly in fostering community and uplifting those around us. Music has always been about way more than just performing for us – it’s a conduit to encourage people to be their best, and help others become their best too.
Love for Our Utah Music Community
Honestly, we wouldn’t be here without all the fantastic people who come out to see our shows and the local musicians who inspire us day after day. From Big Sis to Jeff Dillon & The Revival, from Salduro to Hi Fi Murder, from Spirit Machines to Gag City: We admire all of them for what they add to Utah’s music and events – not just in terms of raw talent and fun performances, but also in terms of their hearts, kindness, and personalities.
We also consider ourselves very lucky to have been able to enjoy great local music from bands like Little Barefoot, Pirates of the Promised Land, Honor Hour, Once the Lion, Summer Bloom, Katie Jo Olsen, Awakening Autumn, Raspberry Protocol, and many more – some of whom we’ve had the pleasure of sharing the stage with already, and some that we hope to be able to share the stage with soon! All of these bands have reaffirmed just how dynamic and supportive Utah music can be and have redefined what’s possible in this scene.
If you’re on the lookout for new Utah events, Utah bands, or Utah music, and you haven’t checked us out yet, please give us a listen on your preferred music platform (we’re probably there!) and add our upcoming events to your calendar! We can’t wait to see you at a show, share some stories, and rock out together.
With such a vibrant and creative counterculture, there’s always room for another voice in Utah — and we’re proud to be part of the chorus.
